I owe New Zealand a huge apology. I was under the impression their best songs were by Flight of the Conchords or perhaps that one about potatoes by Samwise Gamgee. Boy, was I wrong. Turns out they have punk rock there too, and it’s really, really good. The Auckland 4-piece Flirting with Disaster has all the raw energy, melody and bass work of prime Rancid punk rock with a band name that is after my Georgian heart.
Allow me to explain: “Flirting with Disaster” is also a song by NASCAR’s favorite band, Molly Hatchett and the song “Find a Way” is exactly what I’d listen to as I went 200 mph into turn four at Talladega. These guys probably won’t follow that reference, but hey, write what you know. Absolute banger, listen to this song and then thank me later.
