Finnish emo outfit moshimoshi have just released a new single and accompanying music video that is a punk-turned-math-rock lovers’ dream. “Igotlostinsidemyhead” features gorgeous mathy guitar leads on par with popular indie math rock bands like Yvette Young’s Covet as well as throat-grating hardcore punk singing. The mashup of the two styles reminds us in some ways of Canadian indie punk band PUP, but with more intricate riffs and grittier vocals.
We really love this blend of styles, which evokes moments of both comfort and disquiet, and think moshimoshi have carved out quite an exclusive, identifiable sound here. The music video, comprised of VHS quality home videos of friends and fans, also seems comfortably fitting for this subgenre of music. We can’t wait to see what else this band rolls out in the near future.
Follow the band’s Instagram here for photos, videos, and announcements. We added this track to our Underground Punk playlist on Spotify. Check out the new tune below!
