The latest release from Nashville indie rock band Multi Ultra is as catchy as they come. “Gifts and Curses” offers a kaleidoscope of bright colors, ranging from bubblegum pink poppy rhythm guitar, freshwater blue synth, and summery sunny lead vocals, to rainbow synth leads and a deep red Brian May guitar solo. Beneath all this bedazzlement, gang vocals in the stripped-down bridge reveal the song’s thematic core, which outlines the difficulties of attempting to pursue personal growth but still stay true to oneself - a heartfelt message wrapped in shiny papers and silvery ribbons.
