"We are alone. Life is only on earth, and not for long." I Know I Know's latest release, "Ride or Die '' brings about the sort of romantic existentialism which reaks of Lars Von Trier's 'Melancholia.' There's an undeniable drive of drums which keep the song coursing steadily forward, but the scratchy riffs push you trudging at a pace maybe slower than you'd like, sinking into dense earth.
The powerful vocals beg, "It’s frеaking me out. Were you even there? Ride or die baby. We could ride or die maybe" Pop sensibilities shine through the semi lo-fi production with heavy guitars. "Ride or Die" feels like an intrusive thought which becomes a close companion, maybe even a confidante.
While the truths of pain and loss are hard to face, I Know I Know creates space for the listener to explore a greater meaning in the chaos, all the while paying homage to 00's alternative, indie, and British rock. Feels like Goswell and the like would be proud. This cinematic track debuted just in time for cuffing season...or seasonal depression? Better add it to both playlists.
