Asheville-based band, Fantømex, recently dropped their new EP, Chimera. A 4-track melodic ride that takes you through an epic journey and leaves you wanting more, this is a powerful release that boasts a unique blend of styles. It's always refreshing to come across a release that feels both nostalgic and at the same time new.
Pinning this band into one genre would just be silly. It can't be done. The energy behind this release screams punk rock, but there are so many elements of alt-rock, grunge, metal, post-punk, and more. The band shines brightly by being able to take so many familiar elements and mix them in with their own style. The end result is a dynamic sound that can span the listening range of fans through multiple genres.
Each track flows seamlessly into the next one on this album. This makes the EP feel very complete and full. By the time this ride is over, all you'll want to do is hear more, and that's exactly what an EP is supposed to do. Vocal work in each track weaves in and out from hypnotic flows to gritty screams, the instrumentals soar in the release through impressive writing and performing, and spot-on production work solidifies the emotional tone.
