Edmonton five-piece punk band Calling All Captains has just released a catchy new single entitled “Laurel Canyon.” The opening ambience fools us into thinking it’s an artsy indie song, but we are snapped out of that reverie by PUP-esque quirky, gritty vocals. It’s a memorable vocal style with contrastingly precise backing harmonies and echoes.
We hear lots of aspects of 2000s pop punk in this track, like brash guitar, enthusiastic drumming, and familiar melodic lines, combined with the more modern indie-punk “orgcore” sound of bands like Against Me. It all makes for a quirky, catchy, boppable track.
We added this track to our Underground Punk playlist on Spotify. Check out the new single below and follow Calling All Captains for more updates.
